Dear members,
I have an upcoming oral biopsy and concerned about the biopsy along with the results when it comes to it.
I have a white patch on the lateral border of my tongue. The white patch cannot be scrapped. I do not smoke nor drink.
Please could someone tell me (for those that experienced it) how long it takes for the tongue to heal after an oral biopsy and is it a safe procedure?
And most importantly, is the white patch in my mouth very concerning? I don't have any other symptoms apart from the white patch
Thank you
Do you think I could also request for radiotherapy to the neck to be on safe side?
No that will be your oncologists decision based on the stage your cancer is. RT is awful. If you can avoid that it would be the best way
Do you know your stage? Your HPV status?
It’s a generalisation but HPV driven cancer very often presents in the lymph nodes, negative disease not so much

Hi Makkie
I was diagnosed with T2N1M0 Tonsil cancer in February 2023, chemoradio started in late April 2023....
I had been concerned about the possibility of head and neck cancer since 2021, been to see my GPs about my concerns, misdiagnosed on two occasions, luckily on the third visit (Jan 2023} a GP who was more cancer aware sent me to ENT on an urgent referral... cancer HPV16 plus was diagnosed.... luckily it had not spread far.

Hi Peter, sorry to hear you were misdiagnosed on two occasions. Glad you saw someone more competent. Hope your recovery is going well. Thanks
T1N0M0 initial diagnosis and confirmed after scans
But still worried about spread whilst waiting for surgery
Nothing much is going to happen in a few weeks.

Good evening makkie, I agree with Dani, if the surgery was in the next few days days they might hold back and keep an eye on your blood pressue, temp, etc are ok. Hope your cold gets better, keep warm.

Hi all,
Hope you are well.
I had my surgery 2 days ago. Consultant said it went well.
Post-op I am unable to speak, it is very hard. I also have issues with swallowing due to the swelling.
I was discharged after 1 night, however, the pain was severe so I am back in hospital.
Hoping that this is it for me and all that is needed now is recovery.
