My husband is nine months out of treatment for tonsil cancer, he gets 2000 calories a day, still cannot gain any weight back. He lost 35 lbs, he was 195 now 160. The dr says as long as he doesn’t lose any, drs doesn’t seem to say much about it. He’s 78 so I think he will just stay this way. No one knows why he doesn’t gain weight. Thyroid is normal.
Hi. I managed to eat anything and everything for 3years without putting on weight. Then all of a sudden it started inching back on. I had to give up all the cream cakes
Our metabolism goes into overdrive after RT
2K isn’t enough he needs at least 2.5K
Can he top up with Fortisips? Just two would give him 800Calories

Hi Chris
I was the same as Dani. Couldn't put any weight on for a good year or longer and then all of a sudden it started to creep back on. Then all of a sudden I had to start being much more careful about what I was eating and get back onto a healthier diet. Age hasn't anything to do with it. As long as your husband is getting sufficient calories I wouldn't get too concerned. I still have to drink Fortisip daily to make sure that I have enough calories.

If hubby's BMI is within healthy range docs will be happy. I lost 3 stone during treatment which was quite worrying at the time but my weight has stabilised, I have 3 meals a day, tea and a biscuit at night, the odd treat, strawberry tart, cream doughnuts. My BMI is in the healthy range which keeps oncology happy.

Hi. I’ve not had CRT just surgery but lost about 20 pounds. My BMI was and is still healthy. I’m surprised I haven’t put the weight back on. But I think the way I eat has changed and I’m over estimating what I actually eat. I eat more slowly and carefully, and have little taste so the volumes I consume are a lot less. None of my medical team seem in the slightest bit interested as I’m no longer losing weight and I’m still a healthy weight.
Maybe he isn’t eating the calories you think he is?
