My husband is nine months out of treatment for tonsil cancer, he gets 2000 calories a day, still cannot gain any weight back. He lost 35 lbs, he was 195 now 160. The dr says as long as he doesn’t lose any, drs doesn’t seem to say much about it. He’s 78 so I think he will just stay this way. No one knows why he doesn’t gain weight. Thyroid is normal.
Good evening ChrisB24, i have always been slim and never put weight on although i have never been one for fast food, fatty food, deserts etc. I used to eat most food that was dished up at mealtimes and was very fit and healthy until i was diagnosed with cancer in 2008. I now have 7 ensures a day as i cannot swallow proper meals, im now a stone heavier than i was back in 2008 ( 10 and a half stone) which im happy with as is my dietician, i agree with your Dr when he says "as long as he doesn't lose any" . As the others have mentioned he can always top up with more Ensures. I wish you both all the best during his recovery. Take care.

My experience was similar to other posters here, i lost about 40lbs from treatment (the consultant almost put me on a rig as he was concerned) and for about 2 years didn't gain weight despite the most awful diet of high calorie junk (compensating for not being able to eat properly for so long)
After a couple of years however that changed, and i am now (unfortunately) fatter than ever.
I would give it time and in the meantime not worry about it as long as more is not lost.
