I had tongue cancer last year, treatment was radiotherapy and chemotherapy. I was told it had gone, felt a new lunp 6 weeks ago I've had a biopsy and MRI scan and was told Friday it's back. I now have to have CT scan, if it's spread it will be immunotherapy if not it's operation to remove some of tongue. Am so frightened has anyone else had any of these treatments . I feel so alone
Your only young and you are so kind wanting to help other people. You are a strong person.
I feel so much better knowing I have someone to talk to. Thank you so much.
I just need my CT scan and once we got results we can look at treatment. I was just in shock when they said it had return as I only had a scan end of March which was clear. When I had my last appointment as I felt another lump he put camera up my nose and he said everything was clear. He only sent me for a scan just to be sure so all shocked when came back with cancer.
Am still working but finding it hard And everyone say stay positive. I am on outside but not in my head.
How did you cope
Have you got a peg tube?. I don't understand them giving me that first to be honest.
I think it’s because if you do need one putting a peg in mid treatment is pretty traumatic. The other alternative is to give you a nasogastric one. This is what I had.

Base of tongue cancer. T2N0M0 6 weeks Radiotherapy finished January 2019
Good evening Night, i had radiotherapy and chemo after my first operation but like you, it came back again. My first operation was for floor of the mouth cancer and a small bit of my tongue where they took a skin graft from my forearm to rebuild the damaged area. I was able to eat and speak again but recovery differs from person to person, my speech therapist and dietician looked after me due to having a PEG-fitted.It's surprising how quickly mouth/oral surgery heals, I think i was in the hospital for two weeks. It is only natural to worry but take things a day at a time and try not to think ahead too much as it will come together. Hopefully, it has not spread and they can treat it with immunotherapy. Wishing you all the best, take care.

Hi Chris
Thank you so much I appreciate it, what happened when it came back a second time and what treatment did you have. Am sorry you have gone through all this.
Looking on Google does not help as someone has already said. Cancer can be lonely as family and friends say they understand but they don't and I mean that to be disrespectful at all. People who have gone through the same understand, so I really appreciate the support on here
Thank you so much chris
Good evening Night, you are welcome when it came back it was in my lower jaw bone so i had to have reconstructive surgery where i had bone and skin grafts from the lower part of my leg, it was a long operation although i knew nothing about it as i was sound asleep Again i just took things as they came, i knew roughly what was going to happen during the operation but did not look into to it too much and just focused on getting myself mentally prepared focusing on the recovery. You are right nobody understands how it can affect us although they can offer love and support, many people think because the recovery went well you are fixed. Im now exactly 16 years and a day since my first operation on Guy Fawkes so i never forget. All the best.

Hi chris
I had a call from my cancer nurse today, I have no choice I have to have surgury the radiotheraphy did not work the cancer is back in same place and they want to remove it ASAP.
I have CT scan on Tuesday and then my pre assessment the following Tuesday. Operation will be that week
It has not grown and is not in my lymph nodes but they taking them out anyway.
You are a brave man with wise words. Am going to keep myself busy with work and getting my house ready for Xmas as this will give me something to focus on.
I just hope I can talk again as communication is a big part of my job which I love.
Thank you for talking to me and putting my mind as rest it means a lot
Night x
It's good news that it has not spread. It's common to remove lymph nodes near the area, so the margins are clearer when they operate. Yes, please try and keep busy. It sounds as if you have a busy two weeks ahead, which in a way is good as it's not such a long wait. I hope everything goes well with the scan, pre-assessment, and, of course, the operation. Im sure your workplace will also support you. Good luck with everything.
