Hi I am in the fortunate position to be post treatment by 5 and half months. They got the cancer in both my tonsils and I should be celebrating. Sadly I am not I returned to work at the beginning of September on phased. I started feeling really odd and poorly about 4 weeks ago. I had an appointment with the doctor who took bloods last week. The result came back my white blood cells are low so I am not fighting infection. I have a high liver marker and my thyroid is not working properly I feel really poorly and deflated.i am off work again which I am upset about. Has anyone got any experience of this or similar? The doctor said some are side effects from the radiotherapy and chemotherapy. All I want is to start to feel better. I feel so low and have no interest in food. I feel really bad asking. So sorry. JCPH
Hi JCPH, firstly congratulations on being post treatment. Secondly don't feel bad about saying how you feel. This is what this forum is for. I'm afraid I can't say anything about your situation as I am only at the start of my journey, but there are a lot of supportive and helpful people on here who will probably be along to tell you about their own experiences and help to guide you. Take care.

So sorry
Heavens. Don’t apologise. You’ve been through a lot.
RT can cause hypothyroidism So you will need thyroxine. Your GP seems To be on top of it. Once you get that sorted you’ll feel much better

Hi Jackie, I'm doing OK. I have to have my mask fitting in a couple of days and then my PEG fitting a week later and then the dietician is coming to tell me all about the PEG the day after it's fitted. I'm sure the problems you are having are probably temporary. Keep us informed how you get on. Take care.

Ooh you really are in the early stages Hazel! Mask and rig fitting I remember both very vividly! If you have anything you are not sure about I am here. Hopefully I can help or reassure if needed. I think the PEG is slightly different? Your team will be there for you every step of the way. Don't be afraid to speak to them if you are unsure about anything. How many radiotherapy are you having? I wish you all the luck in the world! Sending hugs xx Jackie xx
Hi Thyroid issues are fairly common with our area of radiotherapy like Dani says a tablet a day often thyroxine sorts it. We all should have yearly blood tests so a reminder to everyone have your bloods done to checked for TSH and T4 I have a yearly phone reminder. Shaun this is for everyone luck

Hello! Thank you for your information regarding the thyroid. A yearly blood test would be a brilliant idea. I see you are 6 years post treatment. How did you come to terms with the cancer going and getting back to some sort if normal? I am really struggling right now. Feelings of guilt that others are still on the journey? Pain in my throat. Worrying that the cancer is back? I never used to be so hypersensitive. I would really appreciate your view? Jackie

Hi Jackie, I had two malignant Melanomas about 30 years ago, which were removed and I have had health anxiety ever since, but I thank god for that as it has meant that I now caught this tonsil cancer fairly early, if I wasn't worried about cancer all the time I might have let it go further as I had no pain or anything else to bother me much, just a croaky voice and small lump on the side of my neck.
