Hi all

This Friday will be 17 weeks post treatment, get the results from last weeks MRI next Friday….wahooo Fingers crossed tone1Fingers crossed tone1Fingers crossed tone1

Anyway, I’ve already psyched myself up for them to suggest I may need to wait another 3 months?  The inside of my mouth is still so sore and my cheeks swollen, the insides of my cheeks come right into my teeth, is anyone else like this?  I look like a hamster when I smile (pleased to be smiling again of course!!).
Not convinced I’ve got rid of the thrush yet either!?  Having had 3 courses of antibiotics.  My tongue is disgusting ie ‘furry’ and horrible colour.  Dental hygenist told me to brush it, but I can only touch the front, my gag reflex is more sensitive than ever, any ideas would be much appreciated?

many thanks, Deborah x

ps to all the newbies out there…..eating is still a challenge, but can’t believe I’ve actually got here, feeling so very much better and positive about life once again Grin

  • Hi Deborah well done in week 17 fingers x for scan. Did you have flucozonole prescription for the thrush ??I know a few who have had multiple courses before it’s gone 4-5  2 week sessions.
try to avoid too much sweet stuff. That’s a big trigger as well.
From memory Dani  had a period of hamster cheek hers was a blocked saliva gland. Am sure she will pop on.

    keep in touch.

  • Good evening Deborah, when i was recovering i could not brush my teeth so i was given mouth swabs ( a sponge on a stick) as it a lot gentler and will refresh your mouth and remove the "furry feeling" I buy a big bag of them. Its great to hear you are feeling better with positive feelings. All the best for your continued recovery, take care.

  • Hi Deborah

Had swollen cheeks, quite worried, lymphedema, gentle massage sorted it, had 3 thrush episodes, Nystatin cleared it each time.

  • Hi Cake Lover

I am like you at the moment as I have been battling thrush for about 3 months. Have tried all the tricks that the doctor recommended, have been using nystatin 4 times a day, washing my mouth out with salt water etc. It is a tough little b*********. My tongue stings and my taste is really bitter. Am going to my G.P. to try and get a Flucozonole prescription so fingers crossed that might help.

As Chris recommended I use foam swabs and have found that really helps with cleaning my mouth. I order them online in a big bag as not able to buy over the counter.

  • Firstly well done for getting so far. I'm 5 weeks behind you, just had my scan this week with results due on the 1st. Wishing you all the very best for yours when they come Slight smile

Interesting to see so many people on here mention the thrush, and in some ways its reassuring for me. A couple of weeks back I felt the back left of my tongue go very sensitive and sore for anything to touch (toothpaste in particular was a bugger !) Sat on it for a few days panicking it was the cancer back already, but went to GP and she said straight away it was Thrush. Prescribed Nystan and also some steroids (which are apparently out of production so the pharmacist just gave me more Difflam). Seemed to work for a few days but it's putting up a real fight and not getting much better at all.

Does anybody know if Nystan can just be ordered on repeat prescription, or do you need to see the GP again ?

  • Ooo yes, I’ve bitten it a couple of times too, seriously ouch!!
I’ll ask them about it all when I see my oncologist next week Fingers crossed tone1

    thanks Dani x

Nystan is largely ineffective. You need Fluconazole and two weeks of it
