My husband is coming to the end of week 5 post treatment. The last couple of days he feels his pain is worse. He is keeping on top of his pain meds but worried that it might mean that the treatment hasn’t worked. His neck lump is also still quite prominent. He spoke to his oncologist this week and she had just reiterated that they won’t know until he has a pet scan. When he goes to sleep he seems to choke like apnea. Anyone else have pain that intensified at this time?

Hi x it may help to know that I had a real dip at the end of week 5 post treatment. I was doing really well up until then and was actually off pain meds but quickly went back on. I really worried that something was very wrong given recovery was going well and then I regressed. I also had the choking thing which woke me up often! I worried about that do as my father had apnea which was, in part, his cause of death. Still, I came to learn (from lovely people on here) that what I was experiencing was quite the norm. It took a few weeks for me to get over that Week 5 set back. Though what followed was a pretty constant step forward, step back. Happy to say that 8 months post treatment and things are going really well. I'd say my recovery has really accelerated in the last couple of months and so better days are coming for your husband (and fo you).

You need to look after yourself too. Get yourself out for a coffee with a friend, a walk round the park or garden centre.....or even to the cinema. If you can get hold of your GP ask for something to help you sleep.
