Hi, I seem to have increasing problems with dry mouth. It started off just in the mornings but seems to persist throughout the day now. I spoke to my GP last week and he prescribed Glandosane (saliva spray). My local pharmacy didn't have it nor could they order it. Tried a bigger pharmacy and they said it was out of stock and maybe no longer being manufactured (!). They suggested Salivix (sp?). I have contacted my GP with this information but just wondered if anyone is using anything that a) works and b) is readily available... Or is there anything that I can buy over the counter that has worked? I have been in a back & forth with my medical centre since the beginning of November and all the while still having problems with dry mouth. Any advice greatly appreciated...
Hi, there are so many products out there it’s a case of trial and error I think. You can get samples from The Swallows head and neck cancer charity. I’ve used Bioextra mouthwash and spray for a long time but I do find it stings when my mouth is particularly sore. Saliveze has been more gentle. The gels I find more difficult to spread around my mouth. Xylimelts are good at night. I have aural acupuncture every 4 months, in the ENT dept, and I’m sure this helps. I hope you find a solution that works for you.

Thanks for all the top tips everyone. I got Salivix spay from my GP and Oralieve gel from my dentist. Have upped my game on chewing gum (sugar free) and bought some Pukka teas. Having a call with my Macmillan Nurse this week to discuss holistic needs/solutions so will talk to her about acupuncture too. Thx, Lx

Don’t be surprised if she doesn’t know. Mine didn’t but my oncologist did.

Hi Liesle
I use Oralieve, quite often after a drink of water, tea, coffee, beer! when your mouth can just feel really dry. Like you I am not getting on at all with gum but used to like it before (scared my teeth might get pulled out now lol)
I am unsure if things are getting better or I am just coming to terms with the situation - probably a little from column A & a little from column B
Good luck & stay strong

What are you? 4/5 months out of treatment?
There’s plenty of time for things to get better
