Hi,

Due to start treatment on Monday 4th Sept.Just wanted to say thank you for all the advice ,tips etc etc and putting up with my daft questions. There are many more of those to come I'm sure.

Feeling nervous as I have read so many times it ain't the most fun you can have.Have got myself a large notebook and writing "daily task" list.Being by myself I'm sure I'll forget something in the care !

Mostly worried about pain relief but I've heard the radiographers are great when  you need to up it.

Any words of encouragement greatly appreciated

Thanks again all,

Turi

  • Hi Dani.

I contacted cancer uk about using a woodburner worries about the smoke.I had it put in last year.Top quality one with door and all the certificates.Cancer uk said they had no specific guidance also spoke to one of the cancer advisors at the local Maggies centre. She said they are updated constantly on risks etc but woodburners hadnt had anything in.Looked up DEFRA but they advise dry well seasoned wood which is what i use anyway.I just wonder has anyone been advised not to use the fires due to inhaling wood smoke when you load up with wood.Thers always some smoke.Cancer uk said they would be much more worried about cig smoke.

    Thanks Turi

  • Cancer UK are spot on. I wouldn't worry.

If you're getting blow back when you open to refuel then open the chimney flue before you open the door to the fire.

  • I had 30 cycles of RT between Dec22 and Jan23 and was tough to get through. That said, you do come out of the other side and whilst some of the effects are long lasting many are not. At it's worse try and remember that it is temporary and things will get better you just need to dig deep and find a seam of patience from time to time. Good luck!

  • Thanks GeneS.Everyone seems to have such different experiences don't they ? The waiting has been hard.So much good advice on here.

  • Good luck Turi!

Hang in there, rest a lot but try to get out for a walk every day - even a short toddle - and drink enough water even if it hurts (fluids fluids fluids was my oncologist's #1 advice). I finished 6 weeks chemo & RT 9 months ago and, though it did get tough, I'm really well now (touch wood) with just a dry mouth to show for it. It will be over before you know it, and our treatment has a high success rate.
