Hi,

Due to start treatment on Monday 4th Sept.Just wanted to say thank you for all the advice ,tips etc etc and putting up with my daft questions. There are many more of those to come I'm sure.

Feeling nervous as I have read so many times it ain't the most fun you can have.Have got myself a large notebook and writing "daily task" list.Being by myself I'm sure I'll forget something in the care !

Mostly worried about pain relief but I've heard the radiographers are great when  you need to up it.

Any words of encouragement greatly appreciated

Thanks again all,

Turi

  • Hi Turi.  I can't offer you any advice on the RT as I "only" had surgery.  I think common for all forms of treatment is keep on top of the painkillers and rest when your body tells you to, but do try to get some exercise.  Never be scared to ask any question either on here or of your clinical team.

As to encouragement... Well remember that although treatment is tough the cure rate for our type of cancer is very high and most of us go on to have a good quality of life.

Here to support you when you need us - good luck!

  • Hi Turi . You will be fine the radiotherapy people are your first port of fall you see them every day so don’t hide the pain away  There’s no points for being brave it’s ok to cry I used to sit on kitchen floor at 0300   and have a cry then dust yourself down and start again. You’ll be at the end of treatment before you know it.

  • Thanks Hazel. You folk on here do much so good with all the advice for for the gang that come after. To be honest I would have been really lost without everyone here.

  • Hi turi, don’t worry about pain, I went the whole way through and only needed a few paracetamol at the end! Everyone is different you will have your own symptoms. I got away with pain but suffered so bad with sickness, but all the people I sat with had different things. Good luck for Monday, once it starts you’ll feel better ,once those days are being crossed off there’s light at the end of the tunnel! X

  • Hi Turi

Best wishes for the treatment. You will definitely need the notebook. I found writing down when I took my painkillers and when the next lot was due really helpful as there is so much going on you lose track of the timing and when your next dose is due. I found radiotherapy rather daunting too but there was a doctor and nurse there who I could discuss any issues with. They were really encouraging and helpful. (In Australia you don't discuss issues with the radiogrophers although they were certainly helpful ) If the pain level gets beyond paracetamol which it often does, get straight onto it with your medical team. Good pain relief helps such a lot.

    Best wishes
