I've been researching cream to apply during radiotherapy.
Oloa vera has been used for sunburn, when my hubby asked the radiotherapist if he could use Oloa they said just use the Epimax paraffin subscribed. Just wondered what everyone else had done or is doing to help the sunburn effect in the early stages.
I suppose my theory if Oloa properties are helpful with burns then any little help in the earlier stages is better than just moisturiser for dry skin conditions which come later..?
Be grateful for any experience or info anyone has with this..

Hi I started radiotherapy yesterday, the hospital gave me the cream to use… medi Derma-s total barrier cream
only used it last night so not sure how good it is yet
Hi Gail. The advice is to use nothing before radiotherapy and to use the prescribed cream at any other time. Some creams are irritant, some non prescribed interfere with the treatment, all trusts seem to have their favourites. I used Cetraben because the cream I was given was far too thick and greasy. I cleared it with the team first. Aloe vera gel...not cream...is very good after RT. I used to apply lots straight after treatment in the car on the way home. I hardly burned at all, just got a red and flakey.

Hi Has others have said please clear with your team if you use anything else. But never use before treatment. I burned badly but my oncologist knew that I would die to my big lymph node being very close to surface if skin was inevitable. My neck is fine it took 4 weeks after radiotherapy finished I have never had any issues with it. I come over to spain twice a year for long stay trips. But I use factor 50 suncream on my neck every day summer and winter. Tip use a non paraffin based lip balm as well as it’s possible his lips will flake. A natural based one is best.
Hope this helps.

Thank you Dani.
I was concerned if certain creams/gels could interfere. The radiotherapist did say don't apply cream before treatment. She confirmed your application after treatment and maybe am if you've an afternoon appointment. But even if its just after its a help.
Thank you appreciate your feedback. Xx
Thanks Hazel.
I'd read re the lips so that you for that too. X
My husband has your diagnosis, or very similar. We have lymph nodes which seem to be responding very quickly.
Just looking into sweets to help keep mouth moist. found some sugar free that someone has used through radiotherapy.
Xx
Hi Gail. Yes my big lymph node responded really quickly. Some do some don’t. But eventually we all get there. Any questions just ask. Don’t worry too much about burning there’s excellent creams and bandages available. I spent my last 2 weeks with my neck wrapped in hospital grade cling film for treatment . Then a polymem bandage wrapped in it.

We are all different. I can’t find a common denominator either. I’m fair but do tan. I posted a link to a young man’s video diary of his tonsil cancer treatment ( with a very large lymph node under his ear) on the history of radiotherapy post in my blog. He’s ginger and you’d think he’d be on fire but he just got red. You just have to go with the flow, moisturise and hope for the best.
