Thought I'd start a new thread. Here I am 6 weeks post surgery. I've had my " bone flap" (what a horrible medical term). I have a new jaw from my fibia. I had cancer in chin and floor of mouth.
I've had my first radiotherapy on bottom jaw/ mouth. It was OK.
The night before I notice my neck scar in places was sorer than usual and blistering. I got it under control and thought nothing of it. That was until I told the surgical team. Now I'm back to see them tomorrow. Something tells me the squamous cell carcinoma is more widespread than initially thought?
I can't help but worry. I'm on my own with my two boys who are 20 and 24 years old. I do worry about them coping with this.
Hi Kate. At least you are being seen straight away. I hope it's just some sort of reaction to healing. The boys are still at home aren't they? Of course all this will impact them but hopefully they will cope. Do you discuss this with them?

Hi Dani. It's good that you can build relationships with nurses in each section. I emailed one who made sure I attended a planned appointment that clashes with radiotherapy.
Yes I talk to the boys. We are open and honest in our discussions. My youngest is managing the situation best. My eldest is much more sensitive.
Update you later
Fingers crossed for you Kate. Hugs

Whoop whoop. Ulcers on my scar are due to internal desolving stitches!! Oh my word. What a relief and thank you for the support guys.....priceless ️
Good evening Kate, well done in getting through the surgery as i had the same surgery as you, i remember my scar used to weep and become sore although i did have an infection which certainly did not help, so pleased it's just the stitches causing the ulcers/discomfort. Wishing you all the best in your recovery.

Hi Chris
Yes a big operation wasn't it. Well done you.
My scar is OK at the moment. Phew. Though tracheostomy scar is thin red raw and slow to heal. Lymphedema is what I'm struggling with at the moment. No cancer in lymph nodes but removed just in case. I'm doing gentle massage but relief is minimal. Here's hoping I can retrain the drainage down chest?
Anyone got any suggestions??
