Still having trouble keeping anything down.  Even meds are coming up 1/2 l hour later or less.  Throat and mouth so sore  — only thing keeping me going right now is 3 weeks and 3 days left.    Really really hope I can get some help with the constant being sick.

  • Hi BabeRuth. Have you told your team how sick you are feeling? There are plenty of different anti sickness meds available. There’s sure to be one to suit

Are you on morphine ? That made me pretty sick when I was on it.

  • Can’t keep the anti-sick medicine down long enough for it to work.  On paracetamol for pain but can’t keep it down either.

  • Can you ask them for pain relief via patches? You can get low dose Fentanyl. Maybe if you get the pain under control the nausea might improve? Poor you....it's all you need.

  • They are admitting me — not sure how long for but hopefully until I get something sorted.   Feel like such a failure — have stuff coming today for Christmas and kindling coming for fire and new grate coming for the fire — worst time to flake out.

  • Hi try not to stress. We have to learn to delegate .i was the same through treatment until I realised I’m not superwoman.Cancer treatment especially to head and neck is brutal. You need to be hydrated and have sufficient nutrition to get through it. Pain medication needs to work

No you’re not a failure. Lots of people get admitted for a few days. I spent new year and my birthday in hospital at the end of week three. I couldn’t swallow anything but they got  my pain  meds sorted and an NG tube in and I was good to go. Honestly it’s the best place for you for a short while.

  • Good evening BabeRuth, I'm pleased that they have decided to admit you as you cannot carry on being like this, maybe it's your body's way of telling you that need a rest. You a far from being a failure as going through cancer treatment/surgery can be tough going, just try and concentrate on getting better and let others take the strain until you are back on track. Wishing you all the best, take care.

  • Did the GI tube help?  How was it recovering from that afterwards?

  • Absolutely. It saved my life. Swansea Bay trust’s policy is to place reactive NG tubes rather than proactive PEGs or RIGs. I needed mine. The nutrition nurse organised a pump for me and I fed slowly overnight. I coped    much better with that and it left me free to play with food in the day knowing I didn’t have to “eat” enough to keep me alive.
I was still plagued with intermittent nausea but it was manageable. It was in for 8 weeks.

  • Hi I had mine fitted week:3 of treatment mine was in for 6 weeks. It was a lifesaver for me it left me as Dani says free to experiment with food if I could knowing I was getting nutrition via  ng tube plus all my medication and water went in that way   I attributed the fact  i had the n  fitted helped my recovery immensely.
