Still having trouble keeping anything down.  Even meds are coming up 1/2 l hour later or less.  Throat and mouth so sore  — only thing keeping me going right now is 3 weeks and 3 days left.    Really really hope I can get some help with the constant being sick.

  • hey are admitting me — not sure how long for

I was in for four nights but it likely would have been less if it hadn’t been over new year. You’ll be home by the end of the week I’ll bet. How are you tonight?

  • My husband was eventually prescribed granisetron patches for nausea which worked .

  • Hi.  Sorry it’s taken so long to answer. I went through a pretty rough patch — was in the hospital for just under a week and then home to more or less ignore the world and just slowly get a little bit better.  Last radio session was the 10th of January and I’m just starting to eat very small amounts (couple of teaspoons here and there) of “food”.  (Puddings, egg with runny yolk, soups etc).  Main nutrition has been those supplement drinks — am finally up to 6/day.  For last few weeks of radio and first couple of weeks of recovery I was having trouble keeping food/anything really down — vomiting two or three times/day.  This finally stopped about a week ago and I’ve enjoyed a lot of sweet tea (no milk), and ensure drinks.

Mouth/throat is really sore — lots of little white ulcer things on roof of palette and going down the back of my throat but I’m feeling more and more alive.  I’m wondering how long this takes till I can eat again and even one day enjoy good again if that ever happens.

  • Hi Babe Ruth. Well done on getting through treatment. I was around 3 weeks when I started experimenting with food. Like you poached eggs on well buttered toast with lots of butter or try crumpets. By 6 weeks ir was 50/50 ensures and food. 3 months is another benchmark. Just keep doing what youre  doing. I too never thought food would be pleasurable but it is now. Some  tweaks to what  I used to eat but there’s light at end if tunnel just takes a few turns to get there. My oncologist said he would cure me but take a year  out if my life he did both.
try dunking biscuit into your sweet tea Jaffa cakes were my guilty pleasure also custard creams. Are  you using gelclair  for the ulcers ? Mine took a good 3 month to go. I occasionally get the odd one now.whrn introducing new foods
    hope thus helps.

Hi again. You're through the worst now. 4 weeks is still hugely early. I could eat soft stuff at six weeks and added cream and butter for extra calories. Those Fortisips suck! I hated them. I could taste them even through my NG tube. I had a lot of nausea which I put down to the tube at the back of my throat and the morphine.

By 12 weeks I was on far more solid food but couldn't taste much, I had no appetite either but just ate to get better. It was six months before I could be bothered with food and actually started to enjoy it. Improvements continued till now at 4 years. They have flattened out considerably and WYSIWYG but I'm happy with that

So...a day at a time and you will get better. What the radiologist has thrown at us takes a long time to repair so we have to be patient. Chin up! you're on the road to recovery
