Hi everyone...me again with another question! I am midway through week 5 of my 33 radiotherapy treatments. I have noticed over the last couple of days I am coughing up some pretty horrendous looking mucous/things from my throat. I am assuming this is par for the course at this stage in treatment so just looking for a bit of reassurance I think. Many thanks Karen x
HivKaren yes the dreaded mucus. I started a around week 2 so well done in getting to wwek 5. Lots if tissues tio spit in not lady kije but. I also had a nebuliser as I had copious amounts. You can try steaming over a bowl of hot water just be careful.

Yes normal. It will likely get really sticky. I just spat a lot. I had kitchen roll by the bed and threw bits into a paper bag through the night. I did steam my head over hot water with olbas oil in it. Whether it actually did anything it’s difficult to tell. Sipping lots of water helps too. It disappeared after a few weeks

Thanks Hazel, really appreciate the reassurance. I have been carrying rolls of tissue, kitchen roll and the like with me. It is not pretty when it starts so I am hoping not to be out when an episode comes on :-) Karen xxx
Hi Karen I got to stage I couldn’t care less ! Fingers x you don’t but don’t stress if you do. It does go as quickly as it came.

Oh I hope so Hazel, thanks for the ray of light :-) xxx
Hi Karen, I think you’ve done incredibly well to get to week 5. I had dreadful nausea and vomiting and the phlegm situation made it far worse. I was prescribed Carbocisteine (think this is the spelling), which helped enormously so maybe mention it to your team to see if it can be prescribed to you, as it broke down the phlegm and made it easier to cope with. As everybody has said, this does get better.
