Hi
I'm 7 weeks post treatment for radiotherapy and chemotherapy. I have the RIG and are totally dependent on it at the moment.
I have had a few setbacks since finishing the treatment, infection in my feeding tube wound, then a chest infection. Both were sorted with antibiotics.
I have been struggling with constipation throughout and been taking laxitives prescribed by my GP. I then have runny diarrhea. I haven't had a solid poo since I started the chemo about 12 weeks ago.
I feel sick all the time and are generally very miserable.
I started to feel better after about 3-4 weeks, but now just waiting for the next setback.
I appreciate anyone's comments to do with the constipation and diarrhea.
Thanks
Sue xx
Good evening Sue, sometimes it can be the food supplement you are using and if you are taking drugs through the tube, i found the food supplements with fibre caused diarrhoea on a lot of occasions so changed to supplements with no or low fibre, this definitely helped me. Constipation is normally caused by painkilling drugs etc . I did not take a laxative every day i used to give my body a break from it until i got the balance right. If i have not been for a couple of days i will take the laxative to help. I hope this is of some help, take care.

Hi Sue, I agree with Chris. Go back to your dietician and see if they can give you an alternative food. What laxative are you on?Have you tried probiotics after the antibiotics? Antibiotic therapy always gives me an upset GI tract for weeks unless I do something about it and I found a decent probiotic better than yoghurt. You could add the powder to your feed?
Laxatives can cause a build up of gas in your bowel which is why you might be feeling sick.
In any case I think this is a job for somebody experienced in enteral feeding rather than your GP
I hope you get an answer. The treatment is bad enough without having recovery problems

Hi Dani, I had trouble just recently with my PEG area and stomach so i saw a Gastroenterologist who said it was trapped wind so prescribed Infacol ( colic relief) which did help during this uncomfortable time. My dr did not have a clue ( not her fault as they cant know every symptom). Hope all is well .

It's awful how something so simple can cause so much discomfort. Having had cancer it's easy to think it's all connected but often there is a simpler explanation. Glad you're feeling better.
All good with me here in deepest Wales... Have been busy with the bees and the poly tunnel.
Hope you're fighting fit xx

Thanks everyone
I am going to contact the dietitian on Monday, I have a few issues and I think they all be connected.
My feeding tube wound is leaking and going crusty, I clean it twice a day, I think there maybe a smell as well. I had an infection a few weeks ago but this cleared up after antibiotics.
I feel sick all of the time, and are sick at least once a day.
I will keep you updated

You could well have another infection Sue, i have not had many myself since 2009 but i know how uncomfortable they can be. You could ask to have your tube replaced if its possible to do so, it only takes the nurse 30 seconds most of the time is preparation. Good luck tomorrow.
