Hi.
I finished treatment end of April and have had persistent thrush since half way through. I have tried everything for weeks- fluconazole, itraconazole and nystatin. I’ve also been applying Daktarin on my tongue. Nothing works and the gp even asks me which medication to re-issue. I’ve had an oral mouth wash to balance the biome and this helped for a while but not anymore. I think it has now gone down the back of my throat and as disgusting as this sounds, my tongue is furry. I’m now going to eliminate certain foods from my diet which is going to be difficult as I can’t eat much as it is. I’ve also read that probiotics or prebiotics can help. Are there any particular ones that anyone knows of that have helped? I keep scrolling through the reviews to see a mention of thrush but no luck yet.
thanks
Clare
Hi Roseberry topping
Really pleased this has worked for your husband and made such a difference for him.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Clare
I had a furry tongue after my op and thought it was thrush. My G.P. recommended Nilstat and that did not clear it and then he prescribed Fluconozale but it did not work. Eventually he took a swab which came back nil for thrush. Turns out like Dani said it was due to lack of saliva. It eventually cleared up over time. I think my G.P.’s lack of experience around radiotherapy and how it affects the mouth caused the confusion.
Hope your mouth is O.K. now. My surgeon recommended trying a tongue scraper and that did help a bit although time just sorted it out.

Hi Clare, I've had oral thrush (down my throat as well) since I stopped my radiotherapy at the end of June. It is truly disgusting and is driving me mad as the throat is making it hard to swallow, and the tongue is making sure I have no taste. I have been using Fluconazole and Nystatin with no results. It is very frustrating. Andrew
HinAndrew, Have you had your throat swabbed ?Flucozonole should clear thrush in 2 weeks of taking tablets. As Dani says often it’s lack of saliva. Do you chew sugar free gum during the day to help kick start your saliva ?I use wrigley orbit sugar free gum with xyitol it’s important we use only sugar free gum There’s other brands as well. I also paid for auricular acupuncture which I feel did help enormously with my saliva.
At night time I still use xyimelts and have done so since treatment finished almost 4 years ago, we.have to pay for them as they aren’t on prescription.
The above are just a suggestion.

Many thanks Hazel as always, and yes, I've just had a swab taken, currently awaiting results.
I suspect mine isn't thrush as I have been on fluconazole for months, with zero effect.
I await the results of my swab with interest.
Thanks to everyone who keeps this blog going. It is truly an invaluable resource.
