Been a long day! Had 6 hour cisplatin chemotherapy followed by my first RT session. Feeling ok but wary that side effects could kick in anytime??? The rest of this week is RT with a 2nd chemo on the Monday of week 4.
The mask was very snug, especially around my chin as I still have swelling from neck dissection. They got it on though! I couldn’t believe how quick the RT was. Hope it fits for the 6 weeks.
feeling positive and hopefully will stay that way - watch this space ha!! Hope others starting today are ok!!
Matt
Like you - I had heartburn. They’ve given me dexmethasone steroids for 3 days and also Metoclopramide - a liquid anti-sickness to take if needed. I’m hoping that a lot of these effect are from the chemo and 3 weeks before the next dose so might get easiesr. The daily visit to radiotherapy is going to be tough - 45 minute journey each way but worth it!!

Yes I think it is from the chemo Matt , They gave me 4 liquid anti-sickness steroids plus 1 capsule to take for 2 days so I’ve finished that one , my travelling isn’t so bad , sometimes we can do it in half hour the next 45 minutes. It’s not the distance it’s the traffic with us , I had to go 8.30 yesterday but today I’m at 3 .All trial & error isn’t it xx
Hi Matt yes they are from the chemo at the minute side effects from radiotherapy will slowly start ti kick in. Are you driving yourself ? I had a 60-90min drive dependent on traffic There was no way I could have driven. I used the time in car ti practise my swallow exercises and chill out.
the swollen face will have betn from the saline administered prior and post chemo. Your mask will feel better today xx
hang on in there Hazel x

Hi Hazel,
I’m lucky that friends and family have put together a rota with lifts for radiotherapy. I m not driving at the moment due to post-op neuropathy. Feeling less sick this morning so I think the chemo side effects are easing.
Thanks as always for your advice x
Hi Aly - week 2 already!! Feeling better than last week as no chemo. How are things with you?
