Hi I had a humidifier in the bedroom for at least 4 months ore and post treatment. Bought mine from Amazon a cool mist one approx £25. I personally found it helped me breath better at night. I had tonsil cancer with several affected lymph nodes.I didn’t have a suction machine but had a nebuliser my hospital gave me one . I used it during and after treatment at least times a day and night it helped to loosen the mucus in my throat. I had no nasal issues. But only ever use plain boiled water or saline solution in the nebuliser and plain boiled water in the humidifier for risk if bacteria being breathed in.
Hope this helps

Good evening Asettle, a lovely reply from Hazel, i had a nebuliser for a while after coming out of the hospital which the hospital gave me, it acts similar to inhaling steam from a bowl of boiling water it helps to break the mucus up. I had quite a bit of suctioning when i was in hospital but not once i left, mine was a tube that went down a hole in my neck ( tracheostomy ) that sucks the mucus out as it used to restrict my breathing, must admit it was not a comfortable sensation but was very effective. Im not sure how suctioning works for nasal maybe it is adapted to suit. Hope this is of some help, good luck to you and your husband, take care.

Hi Asettle, I had an airway made in my throat as surgery to back wall prevented me from breathing through my nose. This caused horrible issues with getting rid of thick, sticky mucus and was the bane of my life. It took me a long time to work out how to deal with it. I don't know if this will help your husband but anything is worth a try.
I use 10ml syringes and draw lightly salted, previously boiled water which I make up fresh every day, and squirt the solution into both nostrils. It can take quite a few goes to get things moving but it works for me.
It has really improved lately and now I find I'm not having to do it anywhere near as much- mostly just to keep everything clean.
I hope he finds a way that will help him as I know how unpleasant it is.
Good luck x
