Hi I’m 5 weeks post op maxillectomy reconstruction of radial flap to palate and Neck dissection.
How long does it take for the numbness and stiffness to settle?? I’m doing exercises and massage. I’ve also gone quite deaf in the ear on the side of the neck dissection as well as being numb, very odd feeling
thanks

Hi I had a radical neck disection done in December last year and I still have a few problems today stiffness in the neck occasionally a dry mouth particularly when I wake up but the worst thing for me and still a problem now is I suffer from first bite syndrome unfortunately it has not gone away but despite all these issues I feel its a small price to pay exercise and massage of the neck are very important and I still do them most days anyway hope this helps and good luck with it all
Huge hugs from me too Lyn. I’ll keep in touch with Hazel and send you hugs every day

Thanks Ian for sharing, what’s first bite syndrome??
elaine
Hi Elaine it's a reaction caused by nerve damage when you bite something normally the first bite you get a sharp pain in your mouth but as you chew the food the pain goes weird I know but you learn to manage it small portions in you mouth helps sometimes but not all ways hope this helps
Hi Ian. That's something I've not heard of before. Is it likely to get better as nerves repair?
Linda x
Hi Linda according to my consultant most people who get this it normally goes after a few weeks unfortunately I'm one of the few that will always have it doesn't happen every time but when it does you feel it I have got quite a bit of nerve damage but then they had to remove four tumours from my neck and unfortunately that has left a bit of damage hope this helps
