Hello, my chemo was stopped some weeks ago and I'm now receiving palliative care only - I assume my immune system is still pretty compromised. I have a real problem with oral thrush despite using nystan. I wondered if probiotics might help, but am seeing conflicting advice about this. Does anyone have any info please?
Hi PollyWiz.
welcome to our small community group.
Sorry your chemo was stopped. I had radiotherapy as well as chemo was told nystatin wasn’t no good for radiated mouths was given flucozonole tabkets it cleared within 2 weeks. Maybe ask your cancer nurse as g p tried to give me nystatin.
hope this helps. Probiotic yoghurts didn’t work for me.

Thanks, I'm now on Fluconazole so hopefully that will do the trick.
I'd been told to avoid probiotics, live yoghurt etc while on chemo, but had a good chat with my specialist nurse & the dieticians and they said no hard evidence that either will help, but - now I'm not having treatment - they won't do any harm. So I'll give it a go - might boost my immune system & general health, who knows!
