Hello to you all,
I have just completed my first week of radiotherapy and for the last couple of days of it I must admit to feeling a little sickly, nauseous.
I was told to try things such as sparking water, lemonade, ginger ale or even eat a ginger biscuit though I have yet to try the ginger ale none of the others really worked.
I also now believe that the sickness feeling comes around more when I eat something because yesterday was the worst day of the week and I have eaten normally all week and really only Thursday / Friday did I get this slow build up of feeling sick.
I have not had breakfast as yet today Saturday but again I was told to maybe, eat little and often but the sickness feeling today though I feel it hovering it as not bothered me as much.
Assuming this is normal can I ask how anyone else has coped with it?
Thank you all in advance.
Tony
Hi Tony are you having chemo as well ? If so are you taking anti sickness medication?
if just radiotherapy yes little and often works. I found sipping soda water helped.

Hello Hazel, Thank you for your quick response just the radiotherapy 6 week course.
Soda water I will give that a try and I will raise that matter about the sickness when I have my review on Monday.
It is almost a little like feeling seasick, thank you again have a great weekend.
Best Wishes
Tony
Hi Tony keep an eye on your blood pressure I have slightly high b p but found during radiotherapy it dropped so that can make you feel woozy as well. Try not to eat too many spicy ( if you can eat them ) foods plus acid reflux is common I ended up on omaprozole for that.

Thank you for reminding me to take my normal dosage of blood pressure tablets.
Interesting comments the acid reflux ? I think it is likely to be this I am feeling.
Again many thanks.
Tony
Interesting comments the acid reflux ?
That’s so common it should be in the side effects on our consent form.
In recovery it persists because the natural balance between saliva and stomach acid is lost. I’m on Lansoprazole now and then over two years later
Another thing. If you are bothered by reflux try to avoid too much mint which opens up your sphincter at the bottom of your oesophagus.

I had nausea practically the whole way through and no chemo either. The morphine made it worse. I had metoclopramide which helped a little but in the end I just learned to swallow it down.
When you get onto morphine make sure they give you laxido or movicol because opiates slow your gut motility and constipation makes the nausea worse

Hi Tony,
Sorry you're feeling nauseous. I had bad reflux from about week 4. I was on Lansoperazol too, but that was due to PEG. When I needed more I had oxetacine & antacid. Took it 30 mins before eating, helped with reflux & numbed through helping me eat more.

It’s good to keep a list of worries and questions. You don’t really need to wait for reviews remember. Your RT team are the first port of call on a daily basis

Hi AG14 I had similar and I was on omaprazol and other medication for my heart. I was feeling really iffy and couldn't even stand up without feeling sick , this was down to wrong medication and low blood pressure. Have a word with your nurse and get your blood pressure checked . I bought my own machine as they are cheap enough and it helped diagnose that I had an issue which involved my cardiologist. Dont make the mistake I made not taking the right amount of pain killers. As I was told here By Dani or Hazel that you have to think of food as medicine and just have it . I got so ill because I couldn't eat that I got admitted and had to stop my chemo also. Dont let any problems fester is my advice after going through all this which you will do. One day at a Time and we are all here for you . All the Best Regards Minmax
