Hello Everyone,

Today is day 8, of 30, for my ongoing RT. Since day 4 I have mentioned to the radiographers regarding a dry mouth and sore throat. I discussed this with my nurse yesterday and she suggested that we change my pain relief to paracetamol + Oramorph, does this sound like your experience? I will go duet with the nurses after RT this afternoon.

I am also concerned that I do not yet have any nutrition food for my Gastrostomy; is this available at short notice of over s weekend?

Take Care,

Bob

  • Paracetamol and oramorph were my mainstay after day 14. I took them by rote alternating every two hours. Pain is better Controlled before it becomes really uncomfortable. By day 25 ( of 30) I was on long acting morphine night and morning to supplement
Food. Ask at RT for them to expedite. I got Nutricia to deliver mine while I was on a pump and got the 200 ml bottles from GP.

  • Bob, just be aware that the Oramorph will probably cause constipation so you should start taking laxatives now. It creeps up on you until it’s too late and is bloody miserable, as many in here will attest to! Most people take Laxido daily whilst on morphine. Laxido, Movicol, they are the same and can be bought over the counter. That said, your doctor should be happy to prescribe it too. Good luck.

  • Thanks Folks,

That was day #9 of 30.

I discussed the matter with nurse and I will start taking Cocodamol 500/30 regularly, instead of an “as and when required” basis. As the codeine is also an opiate I will start taking Laxedo daily as well. The pain is creeping up the left side towards my ear and swallowing is increasingly difficult.

  • Hi Bawbee, the change in pain relief meds is quite normal, im pleased you on a stronger pain relief now as in my experience getting on top of the pain is the most important issue during treatment or recovery. The food supplements are available at short notice, i get my Ensures delivered to me now but used to get the chemist to deliver them when i first started using them. Great advice about a laxative, all the best.

You can get the nutricia shakes with fibre. I found they were quite good. Good luck, stay positive, even if it's only saying to yourself "I will get through this." Try to get outside, breathe the fresh air, look at the sky, watch the clouds, and even at night gaze at the stars and the moon! Take care
