Hi there, I’m looking to see if anyone has had an experience or can give advice on palative chemotherapy? My mum was diagnosed with head & neck cancer around 3 years ago! Had radiotherapy..it went away for a year & came back on the side of her neck! She had a full neck dissection & more radiotherapy but unfortunately they couldn’t remove all the cells!! They then put her on Immunotherapy which W e felt she was doing well on for 9 months during lockdown but the latest scan has shown it’s not working!? They are now offering what the call palative chemotherapy to help reduce the tumer for a few weeks/months they are unsure if it will even work it’s a 1 in 5 chance of working to shrink the tumer. Of course there is all the worst side effects that come with it & I just feel my mums health apart from the obvious is ok just now & really scared if she takes the 6 sessions of chemotherapy she will deteriorate and not recover from it! Her oncologist hasn’t really said weather she should take it or not he is just telling us what can happen if she does take it...but not really said what will happen if she doesn’t! I can’t ask certain questions infront of my mums as I don’t want her stressing any more than she all ready is! We are all just left feeling confused as to what to do to help her should she take the treatment option & try to deal with the side effects or should she try to look for CBD type products on her own ? Please help
Hi Sky. One of our members here had a course of 5FU and Cisplatin when his cancer spread to his lungs.
I know some months later he is well and the tumours have reduced but even though he was very fit and young it was very hard on him. He’s been told to expect recurrence anyway. It’s different when you are young and have growing children.
Would you rather have a little time in fairly good health or
Is being sick and Ill worth the extra time?
What does your Mum want.
Why are you looking at CBD oil? What are you expecting it to do?

Hi there, thanks for your reply..they haven’t said the cancer has spread thankfully but who knows what the next few months will bring with no treatment, my mum is 70 but still relatively healthy after all her treatments, they have her pain under control with longtec & paracetamol. So she is sleeping well & eating & has actually put weight on. The cancer is on the outside of her neck so my sister & I change her dressing every 2nd day! Apart from that and a husky voice she is in good spirits at the moment I want to ask the oncologist how long he thinks she will make it with out any chemotherapy..but it’s just so frightening to hear what he will say. We were looking into CBD oil as have heard it can kill cancer cells is this just a myth? I feel so helpless the only thing left for her is this chemotherapy but with it’s side effects & risks of infection it’s just so worrying she will take a turn for the worst! My mum doesn’t know what is best for her either she is thinking of trying one session to see how her body reacts to it & take it from there but I just have the feeling from her oncologist that he thinks she shouldn’t take it just with the way he was speaking about it & the way he was saying she is doing good at the moment & her health is good!? Just really confused x
Good evening Sky, sorry to hear about your mum I know what it's like when cancer comes back and hard to know what to do for the best, I have never heard that CBD will help in this matter, I always thought it was for pain but not for cancer treatment I think this is just a myth from America like a lot "magic" remedies. Personally, I think it would be best to hear what the consultant says if no treatment is taken and compared to taking the treatment, maybe your mum has a point in giving the chemotherapy a try as it just might help your mum, as you say she is fit and healthy for her age with a good appetite which is excellent. Your mum can always stop the treatment if it affects her quality of life. Me being me I would try it if I was healthy enough. Good luck with what you decide between you. all the best, take care.

Don't waste your money on CBD oil. It helps with pain in some people but does absolutely nothing to cancer.
Ask your mum if she would let you speak to to her oncologist on your own. Then you can pose all these questions and get an honest answer. That way there would be no doubt and your decision would be based on the facts not speculation. In the end it is your mum's decision.
Best wishes
Dani
