Hi All  Sorry dont mean to put a damper on things but just wondering what the actual rates , percentages etc are please. All the Best to Everyone Regards Min

  • It's very difficult to answer questions like this because "accurate" answers depend on proper clinical trials being done, and as all of us who've had H&N cancer of some description  have some similarities in our diagnoses and treatment we're all a bit different;  trying to find a large enough group of people with the same symptoms to do an meaningful trial on is virtually impossible. Add to that that the results of any long term trial you do manage to find will by definition be out of date as treatments move on all the time.

I simply asked one of my oncologists what she thought my outcome would be and she said, "complete cure" which was enough for me. There are probably some numbers you can find if you google but I'd really advise against it, trust your team and listen to what they think.

  • Thanks MickO Just trying to decide what to do in general with my life. Yes i make you right about staying off google lol That could quite easily drive one nuts. All the Best Regards Min

  • Hi min

i too was told complete cure and that’s what I got. What to do with your life is enjoy every minute . As me and hubby say  and live your life and also say one life live it.
plus keep off google any figures on there are way out of date and don’t always apply to your diagnosis as we know even with same cancer we all are different.
    don’t dwell on negative thoughts

  • Good evening Min, i agree with the other guys, i would say that it's very high but sometimes it can be difficult to cure it the first time around and we all recover and have different side effects. Maybe you are going through the negative stage where things are not quite where you want to be and doubts creep in, like, was it all worth it, when will it all be over, and when I can lead a normal life again. Im very much like MikeO with Google, thankfully i have never used it for any of my cancers because the information can be so misleading and scary. I have been on this site for about 12 years now and would say most cases come with positive outcomes. All the best for your continued recovery, take care.

Its sometimes not easy but its worth it !

  • Just trying to decide what to do in general with my life.

    Hi Min

you know the doctors fix you and throw you out on your own.
You might live two years you might live twenty two. Do you want to get to that 22nd anniversary and look back on all those lost years of worry and turmoil. I have found the recovery road very difficult but I am getting better. It’s now down to luck and there is nothing I can do about it but put my head down and live the best I can. It’s all we can do.

  • Thanks Hazel wise words. Suppose it was just chatting to nurse and getting pains in head and earache doesn’t help All the Best Regards Min

  • Hi Chris The nurse rang and I was suppose to be getting my Pet scan which never got booked. The only reason she called was because my doctor had called them about pains in my head and ear , Which hopefully will be nothing. Thanks for the wise words All the Best Regards Min

  • Hi Dani Yes indeed we cannot choose the time we have left. Ideally I would like to go for the 22 years please lol . Thanks All the Best  Regards Min

  • Hi Marc

Make that 42? It was a figure plucked out of the air.
I’m just happy to escape this plague and get out in the motor home at last.
And have a meal out with a couple of pints
