So update & hope!

ive managed to clear up a lot of my ulcers & pain by using the old fashioned salt & bicarbonate of soda mouth rinses 5 times a day. I’m not on any oral pain killers now either.

so far this week I’ve managed to eat pate & ciabatta bread, pizza, garlic bread with cheese, salmon fillet with new pots & green beans, toasted tea cake, & various other soft foods as well. No even child portions but it’s working. Flavours all toned down though. Who cares I’m eating

radiotherapy burns to my neck nearly gone too!

starting to feel human

just thought I’d post this to give a little hope to other people.  When I read comments on here I thought it’s was going to take months to start recovery, when I first got diagnosed.  It just shows everyone is different .  Don’t know if age has anything to do with recovery  I’m 47

good luck everyone on this journey

  • Hi Samrobdog That is great news you can eat all those things. The bicarb and soda really helped me as I had no mouth issues like ulcers. I literally just  had my first scrambled egg on toast which I ate most off. I used cream everyday and had no neck burns. Its amazing as you think when is all this going to stop and you get up and something has changed for the better. The tasting of cardboard does eventually go , I will be 3 months out of treatment next week. I am 58 years old. All the Best to Anyone that reads This, It is doable Regards Min

  • That's impressively rapid progress Samantha, really pleased for you. Took me about three months to manage a crumpet!

  • Sam that's brilliant. I am totally impressed. My NG tube was a part of me for four weeks after where you are. It was 12 weeks before I could eat what you describe. Well done

  • Well done Sam! It sounds like you’re doing really really well. As you say, everyone is different Thumbsup

  • Thanks for this encouraging update Samantha, it goes to show some of the old remedies still do the job, being younger does help with recovery , i was 48 when i had my first encounter with cancer. It sounds as if you are making great progress with your eating slowly but surely does it. Well done and good luck for your continued recovery, take care.

Well done Sam,I am 10 weeks pro radiotherapy but still have sore throat and still can't eat food.

    Also have thrush infection

  • Hi Papamick I still have a sore throat and am eating certain  foods and am 12 weeks since finishing treatment. Hang in there things will improve . All the Best Regards Min

  • Hi Papamick I too suffered with oral thrush after treatment 3 years ago it’s painful. Hope you’ve been prescribed flucozonole as it’s the only thing that cleared radiation induced oral thrush. Nystatin just doesn’t clear it.

  • Wow Sam!  That's great.  As you say,  just goes to show how different we all are with how the treatment affects us and our recovery.

    All the best to you.
