Neck lump and unhealthy looking throat

Hi all,

I had a partial thyroidectomy 3 years ago, following biopsy it showed I had a 4cm follicular carcinoma lump in the thyroid that was removed. I received no further treatment.

The past year I've had a large lump around the area if surgery. I've had ultrasounds which have been clear (good news) however I have been feeling this lump internally (just mildly) and have been getting recurrent sore throats every few weeks. A few weeks ago  I thought I'd have a look inside my mouth and found little bumps all over the back of my throat. There are pink bumps and also little white flat patches. I don't think my back of my throat looks very healthy with dark and light areas when I'm sure it's normally consistent pink colour.

I've spoken o my consultant and GP who seem very dismissive and are sure all is fine because my ultrasound was clear

Has anyone any knowledge of neck lumps being connected to throat bumps/lumps?

I will go back to my GP to have them look at my throat but I've lost a lot of faith in the nhs for various reasons so just wanted to put the feelers out on here.

Thanks so much

Alison

  • Hi Alison welcome to our little community

A previous diagnosis of Cancer does leave us all more concerned with new symptoms. Have you actually had your consultant look in your throat and when was your ultrasound.
Quite frankly previous cancer must be a red flag so while it might be nothing serious it must warrant an examination .
I would insist or set up a private ENT appointment.
To answer you question, yes swollen lymph nodes can be  connected  to oral and oropharyngeal bumps.
    I hope it’s nothing.
    Best wishes

  • Hi Alison

I agree totally with Dani.  Go back to your GP and insist on referral to ENT.  I didn't get anywhere with my GP after several visits so had to get a private appt before I was diagnosed.  There may be a simple explanation for your symptoms but I would want them checked thoroughly.

    Good luck.
