I was diagnosed with stage 4 in February last year and after MRI scan luckily it hadn't spread to lymph glands.
My nose collapsed and I had to have surgery which was a partial rhinectomy. My surgery was in June and most of the bone, front and part of one side had to be removed. Unfortunately some of the cancer was left so had another operation in September removing most of the sides. This appears to have removed it all and after the slides were checked given the all clear. Waiting for my final face to face examination and then will have a prosthetic made. Will be monitored for 5 years.
This is a very rare form of skin cancer so not many people have had this operation. I wonder if there is anyone in this group who has had this done.
Sorry to read about your dilemmas with the glue I Think I completely understand, that's the good thing about the implants the magnets are so strong it won't fall off unless someone accidentally catches it like hugging my grandchildren And forgetting to move My head to the side lol it does rub my skin tho And can be sore at times but I Just lather with sudocream at bedtime the radiation has left my left eye prone to soreness even after 4 years I Think it's long-term wishing you a nice day Wendy
Hi, the implant op took a few hours under anesthetic but I was home the same day, once they're in you can't feel them they Just make cleaning the cavity a bit more tricky but I've mastered a good technique, they then make an impression of the hole and make the nose with strong magnets attached to align with the implants it's like clunk click every trip lol it really takes the worry of it slipping away And my man said he Will make me different one's as my face shape alters over the years
thank you for that Mrs Nose, I’m looking forward to the magnets really but I’m still having a bit of trouble with a few scabs forming during the night and just when I think I’m winning here comes the scabs again. They are all at the bottom edges and my consultant didn’t seem too worried, so I will speak to him about them the next visit.
Hi Kay, have you had your scans and biopsy? Have you spoken to the Consultant? There are various options depending on what the doctor has found. You could need an op only or an op and radiotherapy as I had. We will all help you as much as we can. Don’t search on google as you will scare yourself even more!
Hi Kay it depends how early they have caught it so wait until you hear from your consultant, I had a full rhinectomy with radiation as it had spread from one side of my nose to the other ( but that's because I was over 6 months before going to my docs) you may only need partial surgery or even non at all. Keep positive and were all here for you should you need us x
Hi Trish the scabs could be your false nose rubbing on your skin then when the gunk starts running it irritates it that's the case for me anyway so I just lather sudocream or vaseline on at noon night oh how I would love to blow my nose like normal just one more time lol - the simple things in life taken for granted - take care Wendy
Hi Wendy, I’m with you on the nose blowing, it would feel so good. You never realise it at the time. I have a draw full of potions and lotions, some that are a waste of space (but at the time I thought they may help)!! I have sudocrem and Vaseline. I will lather up tonight and see how I go. The drs gave me all sorts of creams for soreness and itches but no good. I will let you know how I go with the others.
