Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with Tongue Cancer. It is stage 1 cancer and has not at this stage reached my lymp nodes.
I was due to go in to hospital on 7th January 2020 to have a Partial Glossectomy, but at last minute cancelled due to Covid Virus.
Saw Consultant today, and although it is not ideal, he says he is prepared to do my op under local anesthetic, which absolutely terrifies me.
I am considering it, but really do not know which way to jump.
Has anyone had this procedure done this way?
Would appreciate some help with this one.
Thankyou
Hi Carol
What great news. Thanks so much for updating us.
I was prescribed Laxido which worked for me. If you're chronically constipated the directions are to take several sachets a day and then 1-2 sachets daily. It's something you need to keep on top of while you're taking morphine based pain killers.
You might also find Difflam in spray form or as a mouthwash can help with the pain when eating. It anaesthetises the mouth and is available on prescription.
All the best with your continued recovery.

Hi Carol.
Thanks for the update
That is excellent news. You WILL be on the mend before you know it. Movicol and Laxido are the usual laxatives we get when we are on morphine. Once you do get going might I suggest you take one morning and evening routinely. The Laxido instructions if you are really bunged up are to take 8 sachets within 6 hours.....Sounds a lot I know but it works
Good luck

Hi thank for update gjad you are home and starting recovery. As others have suggested take a big fuse of the laxido discs over 6 hours then keep on top by taking 1 or 2 daily I found 1 at night time worked for me. Everything crossed for your results in 3 weeks time. Keep in touch

Thank you Hazel, I have started my fuse of movicol, as I happened to have it in the house. Here's hoping for a good result later or tomorrow!..lol makes you realise the most simplest things in life are so important! If it works I will then do as you suggest and top up by 1 or 2 a day. Thank you for your advise, and thank you Hazel for keeping everything crossed for me. And of course good luck and my thoughts for you. Carol x

Thanks for the update, so pleased you had a general and even better it went well, yes once the swelling goes down you will feel better and your speech comes back, I'm sure people can't wait to have their ear bent by you as it will be a great sign of recovery . I fully understand the use of a laxative, I have always used lactulose and it does the trick eventually, maybe you need something with a bit more oomph. All the very best for your recovery, take care, be good.

Hi Chris, Thank you for you input, I have to say in normal circumstances I would always use lactulose, but on this occasion it did not want to work for me! so I stuck with it and used movicol, I used 8 sachets within 6 hours, boy did it work! so thank you everybody for suggesting this, it has so helped me with this normal function!
Although I am not having a particularly good day today physically, my mind set is good! and I am looking forward to maybe a weeks time when hopefully I will feel a little better!
Thank you all again for your help
