Hi, my children want to buy me a juicer for Christmas they think it will be useful during my treatment what do you think and if it is worth having what would I make in it. Thanks

  • Hi Viv I bought an expensive one and it was a pain to clean so i took it back. I still bought another one and used it for juicing vegetables which I rarely do nowadays , A good blender that does nuts etc makes some cracking drinks imho . I was thinking of looking at a nutribullet

  • Agree with Min

To be truthful you’d be better off with a decent liquidiser. You’re going to use a juicer for a few weeks then put it away and forget it. At least with a blender you can use it for making shakes and soups in the future.

  • Hi Dani I looked at the magic mix ones which were £300 upwards and settled on a make called Berg which is excellent and does nuts and has a pulse setting. Highly recommend and cost about £90 . Its what I would call a decent size blender  Regards Min

Thank you a blender it is then

  • Hi Viv You will be making great milkshakes in no time , Banana, milk and ice is nice , cashew nuts blended is the start of a great pasta sauce Regards Min

  • Hi Viv We bought a nutri bulllet thinking  ok smoothies , protein powder etc will see me through it. Sadly my dieticians scorn was proofed correct no matter how or what I did my mouth just couldn’t tolerate anything .from it. Sounded great but practical it wasn’t ,was ok in the weeks leading up to treatment .But soon discovered anything fruit wise No way could mouth tolerate it , neither any vegetables smoothies I tried .So it got packed away and honestly again it’s still packed away.Like Dani says  a good blender could be a better alternative ,I make all my own soups that way I can regulate the seasoning and hubby can then increase his. I started making my own soups early in in treatment and most lunch times instillmhave home made soup, so the  blender gets a lot if use,

Of course we are all different and some may pop on saying they swear by theirs ,as you will find out we all react differently all I can give you is my experience. Hope this helps Hazel

  • Hi Viv

I am on a mainly pureed diet so do find the Nutribullet really useful for grinding down most things that I eat as I need my diet to be really moist.I add in gravy or milk depending on what I am pureeing. I also find a stick blender really useful as I make my own soups and then puree them using the blender. Best thing I ever bought. If you don't need a long term pureed diet I wouldn't worry about the Nutribullet though.

  • Week 3 of RT & ’m grateful for my nutribullet - which I already had. As well as the inevitable soups, I use it to mush tinned fruit, make porridge oats finer & even whizz almi de into almond flour to add extra protein to yoghurt & porridge. At the moment I can still manage sme texture (despite horrible mucousitis now) & I’ve a VERY baby Kenwood processor which isn’t too much hassle to clean up every time.

  • That’s brilliant. You’re doing so well. By the end of week three I had given up eating and had a nasogastric tube. Are you taking supplement drinks, Ensures/ Fortisips or some such as well or relying solely on your own concoctions?
