My partner has had a dose of RT for throat tumour and spine tumour yesterday

This is a one off treatment to help.control symptoms

He has been very tired after the treatment which we expected but he also is in a lot of pain

He has oxycondone aswell as ibuprofen but none of these seen to be touching the pain for him

Has anyone else had this and how long does it take to settle down

Really worried as due to pain he has stopped eating

Is it right that palliative radiotherapy causes pain flare up for a couple of days or does he need his medication reviewed

Sharon xx

  • Hi Sharon. Sorry to hear your news. I'm sure radiotherapy can cause bone pain due to inflammation but it usually settles. I would still ask about pain relief review. Maybe you could ask if he can have Fentanyl which copes with severe pain and is available in a patch (and other delivery systems)

    Fingers crossed for you both

  • Good evening Sharon, i agree with Dani about the pain patches as well as oxy-codone , i remember having this after one of my biopsies as it hurt so much, well done with the sleeping tablets as resting/sleeping is very important. Best wishes, take care.

    Thanks Chris

Hopefully things will settle after a good sleep

As I said I'll ring his nurse first thing to see what they can do if the pain doesn't settle

We are getting married next week and hope the day as bittersweet as it is goes without any hitches or painful moments

    Xx

  • No worries Sharon, if he wakes up in pain you can increase the dose of the pain meds he is on now until you tomorrow once you have spoken to the nurse. That's lovely about getting married next week, im sure it will go without any hitches and you both have a great day , sending best wishes to you both xx
