So my father in law it going through tests to see if he has throat cancer :(

can anybody share any symptoms that they have or had with this?

xx

  • Hi Queenie and welcome to the forum

My symptoms were an alteration in my voice, a weird sore throat that didn't feel like any sore throat I'd had before and generally feeling a little under the weather as if I was going down with a cold or something.  All quite innocuous really but just didn't feel 'right'.

Wishing your father in law all the best with his tests and diagnosis.

    Hi Linda

My partner has throat cancer as per last question you responded to

He had a sore throat and his face and neck looked swollen almost like it was retaining water

His voice got quite low and tests showed he had it

Try not to fret too much as it could be a number of other things

Glad he's getting help and wish you all the best

Ahh hope your doing okay now?

I think I’m just looking too far into it and making more symptoms for myself

Unfortunately for us the worst happened it's all pain control and quality of life

Delays in testing due to covid may or may not have made things worse

    I guess we'll never know

    Xx

  • Hi Queenie. A warm welcome to the group but in a way I hope you don’t stay.

Throat cancer has different symptoms depending on where it is. If it’s in the larynx the usual symptom is a hoarse voice for a few weeks with no other symptoms. Cancer in the back of the throat, ie tonsils, can manifest as pain on swallowing or very often just a swollen lymph node in the neck where a small tumour has spread. Cancer in the base of the tongue can again be pain or just a swelling. So you see there are lots of symptoms.
All these signs can easily be something else.
I hope the results are good and he has nothing to worry about.
