Hi all, 10 days ago I had free flap surgery, this replaced around 1/3rd of my tongue.
Would anyone have any rough estimates how long it takes for your remaining tongue to shrink back down to its original size?
It’s massively swollen, and also the sensation has been really bizarre, just wondering how much of the existing feeling and function will return.
Many thanks
Hi Mr Fox , i would have thought you will have a check up at two weeks so it might be worth checking up, i would have thought the swelling would have started to go down a bit by now although a lot depends how the flap takes to heal and connect with the other tissues. As long as it does not feel sore ,hot or it smells then you should be ok but of course if it is giving you any concerns then contact your team. I think the original part of your tongue will function ok but the rest just depends on the healing etc.All the best, take care.
Chris
