Endoscopy

I recently (about three weeks ago) had an endoscopy. I have needed one for the last six months to dilate my food pipe but only now had it. I have had over twenty already but something happened now which has never happened before. I felt I was awake during the procedure which I think only takes about five minutes, although I had been sedated. On the report it was stated  I was given fentanyl midazolam and oxygen. I did sleep for another two hours and didnt see the doctor again. I can only say it was terrible. Is this usual to happen or was something wrong. I must say though that that the food pipe was dilated and I can now swallow half tablets.

  • Crikey! You read about these things happening don’t you?
I’ve had Midazolam twice, once for a gastroscopy and another time for placement of a dental implant. Apparently you are awake but can’t remember the procedure. Maybe you didn’t have enough? I would definitely let your consultant know.

  • This was not my regular doctor. I did write an email to my regular doctor telling him about it and asking him that in future I only wanted him to do it. I am awaiting a reply. No I am never awake and can never remember anything except this time. The truth is I really want  a stent which my doctors refuse. I went to another hospital who said my doctor is the top doctor and if he refuses then they also wont. So I am stuck with endless endoscopies. I also want a valve to stop acid coming up, they also refuse. Not being a doctor I cant understand why. I also want my nose blocked off again they refuse so the acid sometimes goes up there.
