This is what I was told by a consultant in Australia as I asked the same question, still ask yours though
Varies greatly as it depends on type of cancer / type of chemo / what the infection was / what type of antibiotics. Generally speaking a few weeks. Anyone with comorbidities such as cancer should be particurlarly careful at the moment regardless.
