Hello all wondering if anyone else been in similar circumstances to myself

My lymph nodes were raised on right side of neck, after checks made they were cancerous, they were removed and neck dissection done

lots of tests done to source primary, it showed 2 years later, i had radiotherapy treatment that was 2004

Usual after effects of this but been well since

Sadly it may of returned and results coming very soon

My questions are

what's next fot treatment

Are there any new treatments since 2005

If it's chemo whats the process

Will I able to continue work if having chemo

Thanks all advice be much appreciated

Nele

  • Hello Nele, I would have thought radiotherapy would not be done if you have had it before but chemotherapy can still be used which is normally a course of treatment that is done in hospital, you are normally in most of the day. , sometimes they put a line in that is connected to a ball ( i think ) so you don't have to stay in for the day, this ball/vessel contains the chemo and can be administered while you are at work, home etc until the course is finished. I had three doses but I was in hospital to have mine done. I believe there are other new treatments but I'm not sure what they are. They might also offer more surgery. Best wishes, take care.

    Hi Chris

    Thanks for the responce

Could I ask if the chemotherapy made you unwell  please

Sorry to ask just like to prepare myself

    Nele x

  • Hello Nele, the chemotherapy did not make me unwell as such, I suffered tiredness and fatigue which are the most common side effects but did not feel nauseous (sickness ) which can happen. No need to apologise Nele as I would rather you ask questions on here rather than googling it as it can be misleading in many cases. Best wishes.

    Hi Nele,

My situation is a little different from yours in that I have had no break in treatment since first diagnosed in Oct 17. I think I’m probably qualified in terms of treatment options though as I have tried everything that my team and 2nd/3rd opinions have put forward!

I think the big change since mid 2000s is immunotherapy. I’ve had a couple of goes at that - first time was a general treatment and the initial response was nothing short of amazing. It cleared up multiple distant metastises almost immediately. Unfortunately immunotherapy can stop working as quickly as it starts, which it did, as it started growing again in my neck. My next go at it was a trial, which included immunotherapy. This continued to keep the distant stuff at bay, but again the problems in my neck would not respond so I was taken off the trial. Now back on chemo, but in the knowledge that it’s no cure. Looking into more trial options.

So my suggestion if it has returned is look into immunotherapy. Good luck and hopefully it will work for you.
