Hi,  I'm 11 weeks post my treatment for tongue cancer and have recently suffered from waking up several times a night with a very dry mouth. People have suggested buying a humidifier for the bedroom. Looking on line there are so many types and sizes I don't know which would be best. Has anyone got experience with humidifiers ? Any recommendations or tips on what to look for in a humidifier.

Thanks

Keith

  • Hi Keith. I don’t know anything about humidifiers, but others will. My 1 big tip for dry mouth at night is Xylimelts. I found out about them on this site (not from anyone on my H&N team). They changed my life - yes really! From waking up every 1-2 hours with horrific dry mouth, from day one using them I haven’t drunk a sip of water overnight. (Been using them for 14 months) They are a small lozenge that sticks to a back tooth/gum and slowly dissolves overnight. Because it has a slight taste, it seems to stimulate the saliva flow just enough to keep the mouth moist. Can’t be prescribed but worth every penny of £8 for 40 from Mouth Ulcer Shop ONline. The chap will also send you a free sample to try if you ask.

Good luck with humidifier, but try Xylimelts. And hope your recovery continues to go smoothly

    Hi Hilary,

Thanks for you advice. Xylimelts sounds like it may be a solution, I will certainly give them a try.

    Hi Hazel,

Thanks for your reply. Also I had a quick look at your blog. You are looking good and it has already given me a boost. Thank you!!

On the humidifier front. Can you confirm the make of yours so I can take a look on Amazon? I search for Moreno and nothing came up matching your description.

Thanks once again for your help.
