Large firm lump in face over Paratid duct region, advice please?

Hi all, I hope I'm ok to post here? I was just wondering if anyone could help me by sharing their Paratid tumor symptoms please? I've not yet been diagnosed but I'm starting to have my concerns and I need a doctor to take me seriously! About 3 months ago I noticed a firm, horizontal oval shaped lump just below my cheekbone kind of over the Paratid duct area. It's very hard and if I suck in my cheeks you can see the ful outline of the lump at least 2 centimetres in diameter (only on left side if face) It doesn't hurt at all and isn't red but I do think it's ever so slowly growing and becoming more obvious. I saw a doctor before Christmas who said he thought I had an infection in the gland in my cheek (although he did say he was sure it would hurt if this was the case and mine doesn't) so he just put me on a course of antibiotics and said that should do the trick. They made no difference whatsoever and it does seem slightly bigger.  Does this sound like a Paratid tumor and should I be requesting to see a specialist? Does this sound like the area it could affect? I have also had a large lump below my right armpit that seems to go up and down and I have had this for around 12 months not sure if that has any connection. I'm really sorry if this sounds a little trivial, but can't talk to family as I don't want to worry them. Thank you for listening and any thoughts are appreciated x

  • Hi Ruth

I was diagnosed with a tumor on the parotid gland late 2021. I visited GP with what I thought was Bells Palsey A second visit a few weeks later because it wasn't improving and GP immediately referred me to ENT They ordered a MRI scan, a CT scan and a biopsy and was red flagged. It took another 4 biopsys to get a result which showed cancer (T4N0) Started 35 sessions of RT in late Nov 2021 (consultant said surgery was no an option) After RT I was hospitalized for 4 weeks with NG tube because of weight loss and no appetite. I lost all taste and appetite and no interest in anything. Most of 2022 was very difficult but in the Autumn things started to improve. Now taste is good, appetite is good, weight is near back to normal and Life is good again.I wish I had discovered this forum early in 2022 when I was in the depths of despair I thought I was the only one suffering the way I did I'm now out the other end!!! 21 months post treatment and 77 living on my own. So many on this forum say it will get better and it DOES.

  • Hi Ivan

So glad to hear that you are now doing well since your treatment. It is always great to hear good news. Sounds as though you have had a tough few years.

Like you I wish I had found this forum when I was first diagnosed with jaw cancer. I accidentally came across it in 2019 after my second op when I was looking for some advice on eating. I have found it so helpful and supportive. Going it alone with cancer can be hard so it is so nice to have others around to support you.

Wishing you ongoing good health and happiness.
