Hi all

My husband is 36 and been diagnosed with esophagus cancer.  He was having trouble swallowing and he had to get an endoscopy.  They found a 3cm tumor

He had ct scan which showed no spread and consultant said they would do 3 months of chemotherapy, surgery to remove the tumor, part of stomach, gullet and then another 3 months of chemotherapy

He had a pet scan and they called us to say they are concerned about the swollen glands so they want to do a laparoscopy and check outside of his stomach

I was feeling so positive as though we were on a treatable possible curative plan and this has thrown us.

I am so worried now incase it has spread ( they did say it hasn't spread to organs)  although chemo and surgery on hold until they do this.

I just feel we are waiting about, his swallowing is getting worse but he can still swallow if everything is blended.

He is 6ft 5 and he is starting to lose weight, not drastically.   He is only shakes and eating as much as he can

Anyone went through a laparoscopy or even the treatment plan ?

  • Hi Anniej and very sorry that you find yourself here. I was 59 when I was diagnosed in Oct 23 with oesophageal cancer with my tumour located at the junction of the oesophagus and stomach. My treatment plan was the same as the one outlined for your husband. As part of the investigations prior to the start of this, I also underwent a laparoscopy to check the abdominal cavity. It involves several keyhole incisions to allow the insertion of camera and instruments and was done under general anaesthetic. I was in and out in a day. Fortunately my results were clear and I was able to progress with my treatment. I hope that your husband gets similar good news. Best wishes to you both
