Oesophageal junction cancer

Hello

My husband was diagnosed with Oesophageal cancer early July this year. Was on a curative path & operation however since contracting sepsis following one cycle of FLOT chemo his prognosis has changed. Very slim chance of operation and awaiting alternative chemo & immunotherapy to start hopefully soon. He has been fitted with a stent today to help him eat/drink as he's been totally dependent on jedg feeding tube. One of the main problems has been controlling the excess saliva and bouts of coughing up lots of sticky Bile which prevents sleeping well at night. Tried lanzaprazol antisickness medicine prescribed by oncology but nothing works and don't get me started on hyoscine patches which are no longer available and there is no working alternative other than Glycopyrronium which after one injection in hospital dried up mouth & throat too much. Does anyone suffer with this or recommend a remedy to help it subside? Medics say if stent works it will subside but if it doesn't? Quality of life isn't very good at the moment. Sorry to ramble on if you've read this far.

  • hi denal, i didnt have anything prescribed, i was just bringing up what i can only prescribe as wall paper paste, disgusting, i always had a blue amazon sick bag on me, remember being sick in my hand bag, in our car boot.  nurses explained that we produce 2 litres of saliva daily, and this was normal, but god was disgusting, being propped up with my v pillow at night helped, and having pillows under my knees helped control it at night.  it will get better but it does feel like its a flipping long journey, which i understand from other knowledgeable people on here is the norm, marathon not a sprint, but the quality of life thing does get you down, as does waiting for flippin appointments, scans then the results.  keep us up to date, there is a wicked family on this forum that are all at different stages, found the support i got from here really helped when i had not a clue what the flipping hell was going on.

    take care, jules
