Hello Everyone
My name is Robin, and i live in Hereford. I was diagnosed with Oesophagus cancer at the end of August after having trouble swallowing Metformin tablets that i had been given for my type 2 diabetes. It was a real shock, but i am a very positive person. I had a CT scan that showed the cancer had not spread which was good. I also had a cardiogram which showed my heart was fine.
I then went to see a surgeon in Gloucester hospital regarding having an operation to remove the tumour which is 7cm long. The surgeon there said that he and his team decided that having an operation would be too much for me to deal with, and would only have a small chance of being successful. I then asked to be referred to The Royal Marsden Cancer hospital in London for a 2nd opinion. I had a consultation there 2 weeks ago, and the surgeon there said he was very confident of doing an operation to remove the tumour which was great news. I now have to go the hospital at Chelsea on Tuesday to do a pre operation fitness test, so things are looking more positive for me.
Hi Robin I'm in Tewkesbury and had my surgery in Gloucester Royal in September of 2024. What reason did they give you for not wanting to do the operation?
The surgeon said there would only be a small chance of it being successful, and it would take a year for me to recover from the operation.
