I’ve recently had an oesophagectomy and because 1 lymph node contained cancer I’m being advised to have chemotherapy but I’m not sure what to do. Has anybody been in a similar situation?
I was lucky in that my post-surgery pathology showed no signs of any cancer cells but, nonetheless, I elected to undergo post-op chemo (albeit at 70% strength). I wanted to make sure that I had thrown everything available at being cured of my cancer. Your decision of course but, in your situation, I wouldn’t even be thinking twice about it.
All my margins were clear and 18 lymph nodes were also clear so after discussion with my surgeon and oncologist I decided to decline the post op chemo but if there had been any sign of cancer at all I would have had it. I don’t know if I made the right decision time will tell ! I can honestly say there has been times when I thought I should have had it to complete the treatment but time will tell !
Hope this helps !!
Hi,
Side effects were much the same as pre-op;
But none of them were permanent. I only had three post-op cycles and I was glad to be done with it, to get my tastebuds back (and my hair) and to continue my recovery from surgery.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
