We saw a consultant @ Clatterbridge yesterday & were told that without the palliative chemo he probably wouldn't see Christmas. They did bloods to look for bio markers & are going to arrange an urgent CT scan to see if its already spread since his last scans 6 weeks ago. His voice is huskier & weaker, he's got no appetite or energy & his pain is worse. He's also lost 5kg in 10 days despite me trying to fatten him up. He has been prescribed steroids to see if they help with the appetite & pain.

  • Hi Detty847b62,

It’s Megan here from Macmillan’s Online Community team. I saw your post and wanted to offer some support whilst you are waiting for other group members to reply. I’m so sorry to hear about your husband and what you are both going through together.

You mentioned he doesn’t have an appetite and has low energy and pain at the moment. The Nurses here at Macmillan can talk through your questions and concerns. You can speak to the Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line every day from 8am to 8pm.

To get in touch please call 0808 808 00 00, send an email, or start a live webchat during the opening hours.

There’s also the option to post your questions in our Ask an Expert section of the Community. This is where you can post questions to our Nurses, and Support Advisers, and they’ll aim to respond as soon as they can. Usually within 2-3 working days.

I’m sure others who feel comfortable sharing their personal experiences will reply soon. There is also the Supporting someone with incurable cancer forum

We also have the following forums that will be useful spaces for you to chat to others, ask questions, and talk about how you are feeling.

I hope the above information is helpful. Please don’t hesitate to email Community@macmillan.org.uk or send a private message to the Moderator account if you need help using the Online Community or need additional support.

    Best wishes,

    Megan
