  • Hi

It’s Megan here from Macmillan’s Online Community team. I wanted to reply to offer some support whilst you wait for others who may have had a similar experience to find your post.

I am so sorry to hear about your partner’s diagnosis. When being there to support a loved one living with cancer it can cause a range of emotions, so I’m glad you are reaching out for some help.

In the Online Community, we have the following forums that are useful spaces to chat with others, ask questions, and talk about how you are feeling.

There’s some useful step by step guidance in our Help Pages to help you join and post in our forums. I’m sure if you introduce yourself in the forums above, others with similar experiences will be close by to offer support.

The Looking after someone with cancer booklet has guidance for how carers can look after themselves while supporting and looking after someone with cancer. This page has guidance to help you access emotional support to financial help.

Another way of finding support is by reading our Community news blogs. In this part of the site, the Online Community team shares members’ experiences, site updates and useful support information. If I may, I’d like to take a moment to make you aware of the Tips for supporting a loved one with cancer blog, which may be helpful for you to read.

If you’d find it helpful to talk or have questions about your partner’s treatment, there are teams on the Macmillan Support Line that can support you. They can provide emotional support and practical information. To get in touch, you can call 0808 808 00 00, use live webchat or email during the hours of 8 am- 8 pm every day.

I hope the above information is helpful to you and will help you access the support you are looking for just now. If there is anything the Online Community Team can do to help you use the site and find additional support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us by emailing Community@macmillan.org.uk or send a private message to the Moderator account.

    Best wishes,

    Megan

  • Good luck with everything. It certainly will be a rollercoaster for both you and your partner. I am pretty much 12 months ahead of you. Received my diagnosis 7th October last year. FLOT started in November and had my operation last week in Feb. Pleased to report that 12 months on from my diagnosis, life is good so there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully works out the same for you guys. You've definitely come to the right place for support and the answers to any questions you might have. Wishing you all the best. Russ

  • Thanks so much.ClapClapClapClap so glad things are looking good for you .

    Luckily it hasn't spread.

He started chemo on 22nd..he says he feels 'spacey' and v.v.tired.

  • Hi there. My husband was diagnosed with the same at the end of last year and started his chemo in January. I understand the 'whirlwind' feeling! Life becomes an endless round of appointments doesn't it. Fatigue is pretty much inevitable with FLOT. You have to take things one day at a time really, and do make use of the helpline (I presume you have one) if you have any concerns. After the first cycle you'll both have more idea what to expect subsequently.

My husband had his surgery in May and is now doing very well. Stay positive! x

  • Hi, thanks so much.

He's due 2nd chemo on Nov 5th. He also has prehabilitation at Wrexham hospital due for today but he's feeling too wiped out.

He has a stent in, is struggling to eat enough, is still losing weight , I feel like I'm spinning plates ! All I think about is what would be fancy/be able to eat etc..we have the powdered shakes. I make it then it stands there all day...Rolling eyes

He seems quite..'divorced' from what's going on and not really engaged but I'm also hoping that once we get this first cycle done with He will have some routine to how he feels ...Confused I can't imagine what this feels like. I also lost mum to cancer 10 years ago so watching all this is bit hard....but pushing on
