Hi All, I have just joined this site in desperation and the hope that someone might have some experience of a consultant who could help. Firstly, I really feel for everyone on this forum and hope that your journeys are as positive as they can be. I also thank anyone in advance who responds to this post. So, I have a wonderful husband aged 59 who has already been through so much in life. He had Hodgkins Lymphoma back in the early 1990s and after extensive chemo, which didn't works, had a bone marrow transplant and radiotherapy at UCLH. This put his cancer in remission but has had late onset implications, including stenosis of his arteries (both heart and carotid). He had a TAVI and stents put in 5 years ago (as open heart surgery not possible) and now has left bundle branch blockage as well. This means a heart failure diagnosis. He has recently been diagnosed with stage 3 squamous cell oesophageal cancer. His health is quickly deteriorating. We saw a depressing oncologist who basically gave no hope of any treatment options because of his heart and previous radiotherapy. I have spent many days searching the internet for more sophisticated treatments (proton beam etc) and for consultants who might be able to think out of the box for him. Does anyone have any recommendations for consultants in this field (particularly) at UCLH but anywhere in the UK? Best wishes to you all.

  • first I am so sorry about your husbands health and I imagine it is such a terrible anxious time.

I dont know if it will help but I hope so we have a fantastic oncologist at hca london oncology centre professor Tobi Arkenau who specialises in the area of oesophagael cancer my husband has been under his care for 3 months and the treatment there is first class all round and they also send you to other specialists during their care for other issues. I dont know if you are private or not but this guy does think out of the box.

I hope he may help you and send you my sincere hope for his recovery and your strength as I know how hard it is but there are amazing treatments there.Stay strong.

    with love to you

  • That's so kind of you, thank you! We're not private unfortunately but really appreciate the recommendation. All the very best to you on your journey and thanks for the hugs from others xx
