Hi people, I just wondered if anyone has had recurrence after oesophagectomy? I had the operation last year following chemoradiotherapy but cancer has come back locally in same place (its squamous cell). Gastroenterologist told me last night nothing more he can do but I will see oncologist next week. I'm just wondering if I have any options at all to lengthen my life (I know it is now terminal but don't know how long I have got) Was hoping for maybe immunotherapy but not clear yet if this is an option. Anyone had experience of a stent?
I was a bit dissociated last night but now feeling depressed and scared....
He had his surgery in June, followed by 8 weeks rest, then 8 weeks of FLOT (every other week treatment x4). To be able to complete the surgery they weren’t able to get clear margins so they are going to treat these with chemo and radiation for 5 weeks.
Hi Yvonne, my husband has recurrant Oesophagul cancer. He was originally diagnosed in 2016. After an oesophagectomy and gastrectomy ..he went into remission 2017. He’s lived a relatively normal life since. Till September ! It’s back, but sitting on top of his liver right next to his heart. We are devastated to say the least. He’s far too weak now to have radiotherapy.

Hi Jude
So sorry to hear that your husbands cancer has returned.
I'm having an op to remove my tumour in just over 2 weeks time. Of course I will worry it will come back too. Will focus on getting better and hope I can beat this
Best wishes to you and your husband

Sadly my wonderful wife Yvonne passed away last week.
She has 6 round of chemo where in each cycle she had 2 bad weeks and 1 ok week with some good quality of life, she managed to get out for meals with friends, few weekends away and some sea bass fishing trips on her boat.
Chemo was supposed to give 3-5 good months after it stopped and consultant said we would have a good summer. It all came back 3 weeks later.
Unfairness of it all - she was fit, slim, always ate healthy. How can you go from doing 30 km hikes to struggling to walk few steps.
The treatment did not work and there was no miracle.
All I can hope is that better treatment options become available and miracles do happen . Keep on fighting against this horrible disease!
Hi Vm123
I am so sorry to hear your very sad news. No it isn't fair at all.
I was fit and healthy too and a very keen cyclist. Last June diagnosed with oesophagal cancer. Had 7 rounds of chemo and a gastrectomy and latest scan done 3 weeks ago has revealed an area they are concerned about. I am seeing oncologist on Tuesday next week to discuss but it sounds like more chemo. Just hoping it's not too bad and they can do something.
My deepest sympathy for your loss
Best wishes
Dean
