To say I’m worried is an understatement
Hi Paly,
I’m no expert by any means and you should definitely check this out with your consultant but my understanding from what I have read is as follows;
OG cancers are classified using a TNM staging system where T stands for tumour, N is nodes and M is mestateses. Each of these letters is then followed by a number. If the T number is 1 then it means that the tumour has not grown into the lining (or only just) of the oesophagus and can be removed via endoscopic resection. If you look up TNM staging on this site you can read all about it. It is certainly very good new for you if that is the case. I hope this helps

Hi Paly
Apart from the cancellation - this seems like really brilliant news to me.
I have a similar tumour at the junction with a three lymph nodes (inflamed) and no further spread (at the time of composing this message). All I can say is that every negative has a positive and this seems very positive and simpler - I am so pleased for you.
If they do not have to have invasive surgery meaning a full and quicker recovery that is great news.
Keep me posted - as although we are different - have very similar tumours and feel if chemo has manage to shrink it massively - I too could have a similar treatment/operation.
Seem a very early Xmas present too… those around you must be pleased as will you.
Hi Sergio
I received another call today from the specialist nurse who explained my new treatment plan, consisting of this EMR procedure and some sort of aftercare treatment to be confirmed. This all depends on the biopsies being reported on by the next MDT
Apparantly the surgeon that carried out the laparoscopy and second endoscopy reported the tumour was small enough that he could successfully remove it with this EMR
I will keep you posted
I will be thinking of you all over the festive period
Merry Christmas
Paly
Hi Paly
I'm on the same treatment plan as you. Have done 4 rounds of chemo and my op is scheduled for Jan 5th unless the doctor's strike moves it again.
The chemo Is challenging to say the least as will the op. What I would say is always talk to your Cancer team if you have any issues as they are brilliant.
It's a tough road but the only way to beat this horrible disease.
Wish you all the best
Dean
Hi Paly
Can I just ask how big the tumour was in the first place and where was it exactly positioned - at the junction between the Oesophagus and the Stomach - or higher up? And what size was it - interested to know if there has been a significant reduction in size. 20%, 30% or higher - I guess it depends what size it was to start with.
Position and size and whether it is self contained would give everyone on here - hope of an operation similar to yours. Especially me - as I am due to have the stomach removed as part of my cure.
I can mention an Endoscopic Mucosal Resection to my Oncologist - however they think it is more likely that I will need my stomach removed and oesophagus joined to the small intestine.
Thanks - try to have a good Xmas and even better New Year ahead - I'm sure will be possible?
Sergio

Hi Paly
That's good if you don't need an op. Cancer won't just disappear except after chemo so maybe they checked your results and it wasn't as bad as they first thought.
I do have to have an op which was cancelled by doctors strike and is now on Jan 5th all being well.
I pray that you don't need an op as it sounds very daunting but for me no other option.
Wish you well and hope you get some answers soon
Best wishes
Dean
Hi Dean
I knew from my initial endoscopy that the tumour was small and after the first ct scan and following pet scan and MDT meeting nobody told me the size and I still haven’t been told All I know is I have a malignant tumour in the muscle at the junction of my stomach and eosophagus.
i was meant to have an appointment with the oncologist last Friday but this was cancelled and I received a phone call from the specialist nurse saying that there is a possibility that my tumour is small enough to be removed via this EMR procedure and then some further treatment
There is another MDT meeting on Thursday so I’m hoping I’ll find out more after that
I’ll keep you posted
Merry Christmas to you all
Paly
