My mum was diagnosed beginning of July T3 N1 M0, just in the bottom of the oesophageal/ entry to stomach, given the placement an operation wasn’t offered- was mentioned there was more cells showing possible spread, two weeks later pet scan reveals spread to the gland, stomach lining and liver. We we were given option for chemo and radiology but given she has asthma and copd were mentioned if she went through with this she may not survive through treatments.

with treatment-given 50% chance of 1year, no chemo 50% chance of 9 months

we went with no chemo, it’s all happened extremely quickly,

she has refused the stent too as she doesn’t want any possible consequences of internal mishaps etc,

I’m lucky enough to have the time to spend time co caring for her with my sister however I’m wondering if anyone one has had a similar situation and has a longer surviving time ?

  • Hi,

I'm so sorry that your family is facing this. It's such an awful disease. I've faced this with my mum although a different sort of cancer and all I can say is take many photos and opportunities to do nice things on her good days. It will be bitter sweet. I'd ask the doctors about other treatments like immunotherapy  and if there are other ways to ensure she can get enough nutrition and keep hydrated.  Im sure your head is spinning with this. Remember all you can do is the best you can - perfectionism is not an option. Spending time with her in all that it means is the most important thing. When my mum was first diagnosed I took time off from work to spend with her during her recovery from surgery. I knew I had to keep myself strong so I would go to the gym in the morning- it was my stress reliever and then I'd do nice things with her in the afternoon.  You'll need to find a way to take care of yourself too.

    Take care,

    Suzy.
