Hi all.
new on here. I was diagnosed 7 weeks ago with oesophageal cancer and after many tests have now found it’s spread to my hip, sacrum and top of spine. Am starting treatment next week and hoping they can throw everything at me.
was just wondering I can’t be the only person that it’s spread in and wondered how you are getting on with it.
thanks for any replies.
simon.
Hi Simon, sorry to have to welcome you on here, but welcome you are.
I am not in the same position but do have Oesophageal cancer. After tests mine was staged as T3N1M0. I am presently in the middle of my third round of chemo and heading for an operation in a few weeks.
I feel sure that you will get some feedback from someone in a similar position.
Wish you all the best for the future.
Geo
Hello Simon,
It can be really difficult to write a post on a forum like this, especially when you have so much going on in your mind, but I am pleased you did, and you are welcome, and I hope you will continue to ask questions if you feel you need to.
Sorry to read of your diagnosis with metastasis, I wish you luck with your upcoming treatment, can you share with us which type of OC tumour you have been diagnosed with?
I am the wife of the person with the OC diagnosis, his was with Liver, Lungs and Lymph node Mets, so quite different to yours, but although he was given a shocking diagnosis, he has reacted extremely well to the treatment, which he supplements with powdered natural remedies and crystal and music therapy. Not for everyone maybe, but it works well for him, originally diagnosed in May 2020, he is doing amazingly well, I hope that you have a similar experience.
If you need any support, please consider calling the Macmillan team on the number in my signature, or looking at the OC information in the Cancer types list which you can find HERE
Good Luck

Hi Lowe.
thank you so much for taking the time to reply.
I’ve found so much positivity on this forum which is greatly needed.
not sure what type of OC it is as I’ve been so bombarded with information over the last few weeks it’s hard to stay focused and keep working as well. Plus they seem a lot more interested in the metastasise sites than the original.
I know originally they hoped to operate to remove part of my oesophagus and hopefully all of the tumour, but that’s not possible now.
saw oncologist last Friday who booked me in for first chemotherapy and radiotherapy on my hip to try to ease some pain in my leg. They did tell me average lifespan with what I have is about 18 months, but as I explained I’m not average and am looking to mess up their statistics and live longer.
fingers crossed I have the right receptors to be able to accept other treatments too.
once again thank you for reaching out, I really appreciate it. Hope your husband and yourself stay well and happy
Simon.
