Had operation 3 weeks ago struggling to cope seem to be losing weight trying to eat little and often but it's hard.

I am getting so stressed and so is my wife she has to do everything because we have no family or friends to call on.

We know it should eventually start getting easy but at the moment it is so hard

  • HI, my partner was losing so much weight and again after the op and chemo couldnt keep it on, they put him on CREON, you take them with any food you eat even snacks and they hold onto the fats, he has regained over  3stone so it might be worth asking to try this.

Its very early for you jut eat what you can when you can anythng with high calories or ask for a feeding tube for a while my partner had it for a lot of weeks after his op then he stopped it himself when he wanted to eat more food instead.

    Good luck

  • Hi

It is very early days and it is hard, so be kind to yourselves this is a major op and long journey.

I lost 3 stone very quickly but was warned this is normal.

Although I didn’t want to eat my husband was brilliant at nagging and bringing me food so I eat.  It might only be a dozen chips but as long as I eat a few it was ok.  Try to think about what you normally like and if needed adapt it, cut it up small, add sauces etc.  I grew to look forward to my afternoon ice cream.  I don’t like milk but found I could have it with cereal so I could eat it.  Have some soft ready meals in the freezer, it’s an easy meal even if you can’t eat it all.  My husband made a shepherd’s pie and froze lots of small portions for me.  I know it’s not easy but I knew I needed to eat to get better so every small meal was a step to doing that.

I was told that nothing is off limits, if I want to eat puddings all day that’s fine.  I was given supportive drinks and gels but found these didn’t agree with me I think the sugar rush made me feel horrible.

It has taken until a month or so after my last post op chemo for my weight to stabilise although the loss slowed down a lot.

    Take care

  • Hi Sam how long was your partner taking creon for Iv been issued some but not as an ongoing prescription ! How long did it start to take effect ?

  •  he has been on it months now its an ongoing prescription he can get on repeat now.  He finished chemo in Sept last so started them a while after that I think.  he was only on 3/4 per meal then they said put it up and up again to 6/7 per meal hes now finiding it hard to take so many so trying to drop it down a bit again to see if he can hold the weight on, hes a big guy likes the gym a lot so i guess that helps too when he can go.  He had def put weight back on by xmas so say 2/3 months and now 6 months later hes back up to 16 stone he had dropped below 12 last year.
